The New Year signals the resurgence of activities for almost all our Optimist Clubs, who have gratefully closed their Christmas Tree Stands and are moving into 2012 projects.
Arkansas City Optimists will be hosting the High School Hot Shot Contest at half time on February 3rd, followed by their Appreciation Dinner on February 14th and on April 21, hosting a Health and Safety Fair & Car Seat Check!
Emporia will host their annual Basketball Classic Banquet on March 26th and have reservations for their annual Easter Egg Hunt to be held on April 7th. - Talk about distributing a lot of Eggs, they know how to do it! Also in the works is a Youth Appreciation Banquet.
White Lakes is beginning to think about their responsibilities for the Spirit of Kansas Day on July 4th!
Lawrence Breakfast will hold a Chili Feed on Jan. 17 from 6-8 p.m. at New York Elementary School and Abe Lincoln Chili Feed at the American Legion 11-2 p.m. February 12 (contact Jane for more info. & come out and support one of their fundraisers!
Olathe Noon Optimist are taking their "Olathe's Got Talent" event showcasing kids interested in performing arts to a new level this year. Over 10,000 dollars have been raised for Sponsorships and Scholarships to date. Nine scholarships will be awarded, if all goes well. Proceeds from sponsorships, gate receipts, and entrie fees will be shared with one high school's Theatre Department, The Miracle League for team sponsorships for handicapped teams, and some for the club to use for planned youth projects.
Unfortunately the event date is April 21 & we'll miss the District Meeting ... but they invite you to drive in to Olathe to see the event, which will begin at 7:00 p.m.
at Olathe South - 1640 E. 151st St.
Ottawa will have a Valentine's Dinner on Feb. 12 & June 2 is the date for their Franklin County Youth Day.
