DISTRICT INFORMATION

Optimists are an Internationally affiliated Civic Organization.
We are all about "Bringing Out the Best in Kids" as a "Friend of Youth"

Kansas District 37 r has been serving Kansas Optimist Clubs for over 60 years.. The District has had two International Presidents, with Dave Bruns serving as International President for the 2015-16 year. Numerous International Vice Presidents have given their time and talents to maintain the history and integrity of the organization. The Kansas District continues to support the goals of Optimist International by assisting Optimist Clubs in Kansas to “Bring Out the Best in Kids,” their selves, and their communities.

Optimist International has pledged 500,000 over several years to continue research on childhood cancer at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore. The Kansas District has been encouraged, as a state-wide initiative to continue to support the three Childhood Cancer Camps that serve our Kansas kids at the grass roots level. These camps provide an opportunity for kids to be kids again for one week each summer at no cost to the family. Constant contact and family support are maintained throughout the year for families who have been introduced to a “new normal” as they cope with their child’s diagnosis of cancer. Annually, our clubs continue to provide needed camp supplies, and monetary support to Camp Quality Kansas – Wichita; Greater K.C. Area Camp Quality, Excelsior Springs and  Camp Hope – Great Bend.

This is an application for a club matching grant of $500 for a NEW project that a club might want to implement. There is also an Optimist Foundation Grant that has a due date of 3/10.

Clubs have also helped families and children in their community who have been diagnosed with cancer through special projects and fundraisers initiated by their club. A broader spectrum of opportunities will be available through the new Optimist International “Childhood Health and Wellness” core program.

Clubs are autonomous in their provision of services to youth in their community, and meet the needs of children in a variety of ways.

We invite you to be a part of this dynamic service organization whose focus is serving youth in our community and world-wide. Please feel free to contact us about a local club in your area at: ksoptimist@sbcglobal.net
